Sort order. Jan 03, Geri Reads rated it liked it. Flynn Ashton was supposed to be marrying Thea Morrison, but she ran off with Flynn's brother. Fortunately, Helena, Thea's sister volunteered to take her place. Flynn was in it for the business and Helena was in it to make atonement for her past mistakes, which she kept a secret from Flynn. I have to be honest. I had a hard time suspending reality with how the wedding played out and how easy it was for Helena to just say, "Hey, I'll marry you.

It was purely business. That would have been okay since that's what their marriage was but after a few pages, I wanted to feel more connection. So yeah, I wish I could have gotten the connection earlier. An ARC was provided by Harlequin in exchange for an honest review. View 1 comment. May 08, Gaufre rated it it was ok. Fast easy read. Utterly ridiculous premise.

Nov 28, Happily Ever Chapter rated it really liked it Shelves: sweet-contemporary. This story picks up with Thea's sister, Helena, stepping in to marry Flynn. Both come from powerfully rich families that merged companies a while back. As their fathers are aging, they wanted to know the company's future would remain secure in family hands by negotiating an arrangement of marriage.

Flynn was adopted into the family shortly before his brother was conceived. His father never had a problem voices his opinions in regards to "An heir and a spare. Helena was victimized at 16 years old and eight years later is still paying for her mistakes. No matter what she does, it's never good enough in her father's eyes. Even when she marries Flynn on the fly to save further scandal and speculation from the hundreds of social mongers that attended the event of the season.

Now, once again, her past comes back to brutally haunt her when she's faced with a clause in the post-nuptial agreement that she cannot sign without a guilty conscience. The story is wonderfully written, flows well and has excellently written characters. The plot is fun, frustrating, emotional, and hopeful. The dialogue is great. The conflicts are real and emotional with realistic reactions and resolve. The conclusion was solid, leaving no loose ends or cliffhangers. Although this book is just over pages, it read much quicker thanks to Ms. Pembroke's fluid writing style.

It's easy to see how two people could end up in a marriage after a drunk weekend in Vegas, but to voluntarily marry someone you don't know well or love, well its hard to make that believable. I did actually understand the motived behind this marriage, which is what I was worried about.

Honestly, it was more of a business transaction then it was a love match. And let's face it, even in this day and age, wealthy families do merge through marriage as a business transaction, so this worked for me. Overall, I thought the whole scenario worked for the most part for the story, and there is a lot of joint family history here to be sure. So Flynn is originally suppose to marry Helena's sister, a lot of preparation went into this marriage contract, but in the end Helena's sister ran off with Flynn's brother. It wasn't exactly what I would call organic for Helena to just step up and say, hey I'll marry you, but it worked for the most part.

The whole reason why Helena agrees to the marriage in the first place is because she wants to make up for mistakes that she made in her past, which are very hush, hush and kept secret from Flynn.

  6. If I am completely honest, the whole connect between Flynn and Helena seems really forced. I didn't really feel like there was even much of a spark between the two of them until way over half of the book was gone. And honestly there was so much emphasis put on the contract aspect of the marriage that it was almost too much. But, once the spark did start between the two of them, it did keep me interested. That being said I didn't like Flynn all that much. I mean Helena has a past, and so does Flynn hey everyone has a past , but Flynn has let his past make him so unforgiving about certain things.

When Helena's past is finally exposed to Flynn he reacts so horribly. And even when he knows all the facts and feels a little bad about it, I have a hard time forgiving him. I guess I just don't really like people who only see in black and white, I mean everyone makes mistakes, and unless you have been in someone else's shoes you have to be able to at least try and see where other people are coming from. All and all, this was an okay book.

I think I would have enjoyed it more if there was more of a connection between Flynn and Helena earlier on in the book, but maybe that's just me.

Nov 16, Claudia rated it really liked it Shelves: netgalley , contemporary , romance. I liked this one. The story between Flynn and Helena is beautifully done. I have not read the First book but it would be a nice addition to read about how those two ended up in this situation I loved how they tried to get to know each other although it could or should have been a bit more extensive. I would have appreciated if we could have Seen more of them together to find each other and fall in love.

Although I did not really like Flynns first reaction to learning Helenas secret but I did under I liked this one. Although I did not really like Flynns first reaction to learning Helenas secret but I did understand him Both characters are strong, coming from difficult childhoods but trying to make the best of it. Both try to make up for "mistakes" they are Not responsible for and still find a Way to be, if not happy, at least content with their choices All in all this was a beautiful story about love and how you cannot plan how it influences your life.

Helena, wanted to make up for the past mistakes that she refused to disclosed to him. This is a story of a marriage of convenience with a twist at the beginning of the story. I actually anticipated correctly the plot of the book but nevertheless, I love the way the story was written.

Dec 21, Brooke i blog 4 books rated it really liked it Shelves: read-in It kept me interested and curious as to how things would turn out for the couple. I realized after beginning that this is a follow-up to another book that is very closely linked. I would recommend reading them in order! But I still enjoyed this one. As I review mostly Christian fiction, it is worth noting that this was published for the general market. With the excepti 4. With the exception of one rather steamy scene, the book is basically clean.

Look at what i found I have stayed up til the wee hours of the morning to get to the end. I loved the characters and the book was very well written. Totally worth the pennies I spent. I found this to be an interesting read there is a lot of hurt and pain in this book for so many of its characters. The author writes in a way that you can feel their pain. Helena steps up to the plat I found this to be an interesting read there is a lot of hurt and pain in this book for so many of its characters. Helena steps up to the plate and takes her sisters place and weds the groom in hopes of her father forgiving her of her past plus she still has a crush on the groom.

There is much that needs to be worked out between her and Flynn this is when things get complicated. Things got out of control and things happen which puts her in a not so nice light. Decisions are made that might or might not have been the right ones for her. Some things are best to just tell up front.

    See a Problem?

Flynn has to decide if he can forgive her or is the marriage over before it even starts. You have a lot of drama in this book, I would say it is pretty close to real life as it can get. My Account. Your Bag. Your bag is currently empty. Order total:. Look inside.
